Lip Piercing VS. Septum Piercing?

OKAY.

So I do have my lip pierced.

I am considering….considering getting a septum. Does that make sense? I’m considering to consider getting a septum. I always do a lot of research before I get a tattoo/piercing or whatever done, thats me being a geek for you.

On a scale from 1 to 10.
10 being horribly painful, 1 being ‘what its over already?”
I believe a lip piercing is about a 2 or 3. :/ Its the prepping that makes it crazy.

So in YOUR opinion (if you obviously have a septum) where would the notch be at, on the pain meter?

Any pros and cons of having a septum? I know since its in the nose cartilage, its going to be tender for awhile, I have the cartilage at the top of my ear pierced, and it’s still tender occasionally. Its been over 5 months. :/ LMAO.

So lemme know what your experience is with the septum ring.

I would say the septum is 2 or 3/10. My septum was pierced at a 16g and I have stretched it to 8g, stretching it hurt worse then the actual piercing. The correct placement of the piercing is not through the cartiledge, its through a small area of skin between the nostrils. Afterwards for 1-2 weeks the tip of your nose will be very sensitive, if anything touchs it you feel like your nose is bruised.

I love my septum piercing because it is easily hidden, if you decide you don’t want it the scar won’t show, and there is a lot of different jewlery you can wear in it so you can change how it looks alot. It heals pretty quickly, you can start changing the jewlery a month after getting it pierced. Its not in an area of your body that has things rubbing on it a lot so the rejection rate is really low. But you will get boogers on the jewlery and a crust builds up right by the holes that will keep the jewlery from moving and can be uncomfortable, so you need to clean it everyday… it still happens sometimes though.

I don’t have it pierced but I have a nostril piercing,I have seen people getting them pierced. They say it hurts but not alot like a 4 or 5 on a scale. It will make you tear.

I know 2 people who have septum piercings [along with several other facial piercings], and they both agree that it’s one of the most painful ones. But I do not have mine done, so I guess I can’t really say for sure :(

But a good thing about that piercing is if you have a job that doesn’t allow them, you can just flip the jewelry up inside so it’s not visible.

Hi! I have my lip, monroe, nose, industrial and septum done! I think you should totally get it done, I love it. As for pain, it really depends on the piercer. Theres a "sweet spot" in the skin where you get your septum pierced. If the piercer hits that, its virtually painless. Other than that, its over in a second anyways, so it woulnt be that bad either way. Now, my industrial is cartilage, so that KILLED but seriously, septum is made out to be a lot worse than it is, haha. A pro of the septum: you can tuck it up if youre not im the mood to wear it or have it been seen one day. Scarlett Johansen has hers done, since 2006! I didnt even know until like, a week ago. So there you go! Hope this helps :D

ok, so i havent seen anyone post about the only problem i know of with septum piercings…
i am a professional tattoo artist and body piercer and have been at it for around 15 years. i have performed 2 septum piercings and both customers have said that they stink! the reason being sebum… a white/yellowish secretion that just means your body is healing. its totally normal but rather disgusting as well. if you have your ears pierced, take out the jewelry and smell it. that is what the septum jewelry will PROBABLY smell like when its done healing. as far as the pain factor – everyone is different. both my customers said about 4-5. as others have said, it can be hidden easily. so if your not concerned about the smell i say go for it! you can find lots more information on tattoos and body piercings on my website in the FAQ and After Care section: http://travelingpiercer.webs.com
