Why are people so negative towards tattoos?

I mean, I hear so many people saying negative things about modifying your body in this way, yet no one bats an eyelid at ear and nose piercings, even in children (esp muslims), breast surgery, liposuction, nose jobs etc, even people mutilating their childrens genitals (circumcision) so it "looks better" esp people from religious backgrounds. I have heard religious people say that you should not mess with what you have, but if thats the case, why circumcise, why pierce the ears, why style and dye your hair???
sir nigel – no i do not get your point, what are you trying to say? that your uncle has got old? that he has had a long life? what?

It’s so funny that the forceful removal of foreskin of a baby boy is acceptable and even celebrated in some circles. But when it comes to tattoos, people cringe and claim it’s disgusting and distasteful. At least the person has a choice to have the tattoo unlike infant girls who get their ears pierced (happen to me). I have a tattoo and if people don’t like it that’s their problem. It’s my body and I haven’t hurt anyone in my pursuit of my tattoo.

People who are "anti-tattoo" just don’t understand them.

They get saggy when you get old and then your cute little butterfly turns into misshapen picture of Michael Jackson.

well, i wont make it to 80, and if i do, i will be proud of them just as i am now. haha i’ll be the cool grandmother sitting in her rocking chair tatted up! haha

    It’s permanent and sometimes scary.

When my great-granduncle was in the Navy as a fit 22 year old, he got a massive tat of a bulldog on his left arm, a naked woman on his right arm and a rose on his calf.

He’s now 91, severly overweight and bald. Get the point?

Edit: The point was, my uncle looked cool with those tats, but now he just looks disturbing. I’m not 100% against tats, but I’m just against people who forget that tats are permanent.

Ok Christians (or Muslims except 4 da nose piercings) are not necessarily accepting of all those modifications. We are taught to love, accept & cherish the bodies God gave us so most religions look down upon cosmetic surgery. As far as tattoos vs piercings, piercings are more accepted in culture, not religion, because they are temporary.

I have no tattoos and I don’t care if someone else does. It’s a free society. I think there is a big difference between getting a tattoo for the art aspect, or memory, achievement, crisis, whatever and getting tatts that tell the story of your life as a thug. Badges of honor I guess. I work with incarcerated people. Just my opinion.

I don’t have a problem with tattoos. I have one although my mom does not know about it yet. Most of the time people associate tattoos with gangs or something negative like that its really just stereotyping.

I’m somewhat negative to most of the things you mentioned, personally, just because I find it perplexing as to why someone would want to do something like that to their body; it’s probably simply because the idea of the procedures for getting a tattoo, or a piercing, or whatever, would appear to be painful from the eye of someone who hasn’t had them.

Regardless of which, they look cool anyway.

Iam in my 50s and I was brought up to believe the only people that got tattoos were drunken sailors and motorcycle mamas and biker guys so its hard to change my thoughts Iam trying and trying to be open minded and change with times but the older you get the harder it is. Iam really trying. Don’t give up on us we are still believers in to trying to fined our self’s.
